Adoption Care Standards

We are committed to advocating for the animals in our care and making thoughtful, responsible placement decisions. Many of our animals spend significant time with us, giving our team valuable insight into their individual needs.

Our priority is to ensure that each animal is going to a home that can continue the level of care they have received while with us. These expectations are in place to support successful, lasting adoptions and to ensure our animals thrive in their new homes. The following expectations outline the standard of care we require for all adoptables as they move into their new homes.

Adoption Expectations

Be At Least 18 Years of Age

We require our adopters to be at least 18 years of age. You MUST bring a government-issued I.D. to show proof of age.

Have Permission To Keep A Pet In Your Home

Adopters who rent should have permission from their landlord to keep a pet in their home. If we need to contact your landlord when reviewing your application, we will contact you before contacting them.

All Pets In Home Must Be Current on Vaccines

All Dogs in Home Must Be Current On Heartworm Prevention

We will contact your current veterinarian to verify this before finalizing your application. If your current pets are not current, we would love to work with you to get them up to date!

All Dogs in Home Must Be Current On Heartworm Prevention

Heartworm prevention is recommended year-round in Missouri to prevent the spread of heartworm disease. If your current dogs are not up-to-date on preventatives, we would love to discuss options and the importance of protecting your pet!

To ensure continued heartworm protection, all dogs adopted through our organization must go home with six months of heartworm prevention, which is purchased at an additional cost as part of the adoption process.
